Ru-Co-Mn trimetallic alloy nanocatalyst driving bifunctional redox electrocatalysis

Water electrolysis is one of the most promising approaches for producing hydrogen. However, it has been hindered by sluggishness anodic oxygen evolution reaction. In this work, we fabricated Ru-Co-Mn trimetallic alloy nanoparticles on N-doped carbon support (RuCoMn@NC) via pyrolysis-adsorption-pyrolysis process using ZIF-67 as a precursor. The RuCoMn@NC catalyst exhibited excellent electrocatalytic performance hydrogen reaction (HER) over wide range pH and glucose oxidation in alkaline media. It showed exceptional HER activity medium, superior to that commercial Pt/C (20 wt%), good electrochemical stability. Further, two-electrode electrolyzer pairing both cathode anode was employed, only cell voltage 1.63 V required attain current density 10 mA cm?2 electrolysis, which about 270 mV lower than overall water-splitting electrolyzer. This paper provides method developing efficiently bifunctional electrocatalysts driving redox electro-catalysis, would be beneficial energy-saving electrolytic H2 production.
